Purpose of Role:


To contribute to MEG Energy Corp’s success by working with cross-functional teams to design, develop, implement, and support enterprise business intelligence solutions enabling the business to make better decisions faster.


Key Responsibilities:      


  • Work directly with various MEG Business Unit Stakeholders to ensure MEG is positioned to respond quickly and accurately to information requests

  • Participate in analysis activities to gather data and analytic requirements

  • Translate business requirements into specifications that will be used to design, build and maintain the corporate semantic data layer (data warehouse, tabular models, data cubes, etc)

  • Maintain and support MEG’s business intelligence (BI), data and analytic platforms

  • Contribute to and implement best practices, guidelines and repeatable processes specific to data warehouse reporting and analytics

  • Evaluate and improve existing BI systems

  • Develop and update technical documentation




  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science or Information Technology

  • Minimum 5 years of experience designing and developing data warehouses


Skills and Knowledge:


  • Strong hands-on background in Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing solutions

  • Proven experience as a BI Developer or Data Scientist

  • Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining

  • Thorough understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework

  • Familiarity with BI technologies

  • Strong knowledge of SQL queries, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

  • Proficient with Kimball and Inmon methodologies

  • Oil and Gas Industry experience is preferred



  • Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative

  • Demonstrates flexibility, attention to detail, and proven ability to work closely with multiple stakeholders

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision making capabilities

  • Effective organizational and time management skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including ability to present information clearly and consistently

  • Motivated individual who is a true team player, with a positive attitude
